Klik FAQ

Version 1.5
Last Update:  Aug. 31, 2018

1. What company makes Klik dispensers?
Au'some Inc. located in Monmouth Junction, NJ.  Originally, the company was known as Au'some Candy Inc. and located in South Plainfield, NJ.  In 2005, they started another company which was called Au’some Snack Naturally, Inc., where they were producing Fruit Snacks, non candy related items.  In 2006, the decision was made to merge both companies into one company, calling it Au’some Inc.  The website for their fruit snacks can be found here.

2. How many Klik dispensers are there?
Currently, there are about 170 different Klik dispensers.  This number includes head, stem, and sticker variations, but not packaging (bag, card, box) variations.

3. What stores sell Klik dispensers?
Most stores that sell PEZ dispensers also sell Klik dispensers.  I've found Klik dispensers in the following stores:  Rite-Aid, Toys"R"Us, Ralphs, and Dollar Tree.

4. What kind of candies do Klik dispensers hold?
Klik dispensers hold and dispense round Smarties type candies, which are known as Rockets in Canada.  Smarties and Rockets candies are made by Smarties Candy Company (name changed from Ce De Candy in 2011).  Smarties are made in Union, NJ and Rockets are made in Newmarket, Ontario.  There are two types of Smarties you'd see packaged with Klik dispensers, Smarties Candy and Smarties Bubble Gum.  Until 2007 you'd always see at least one roll of Smarties packaged with a Klik dispenser.  Starting in 2007, however, with the Spiderman 3 Klik dispensers, Au'some stopped including Smarties and started including their own Au'some Candy Roll and Au'some Bubble Gum.  Both are round like Smarties and taste very similar.  Check out this video to see a comparison of Smarties and Au'some candies in terms of taste, size, and being shot from a Wii Remote Klik dispenser.  Au'some decided to use their own brand of candies in the Kliks as they manufactured them for many years prior to bringing in Smarties.  It was a choice they made given their candies had a little bit of a sour bite, which consumers of theirs seem to prefer.

5. What is a Klik ULTRA dispenser?
Klik ULTRA dispensers are different than the typical Klik dispensers.  Regular Klik dispensers have only a character head, while Klik ULTRA dispensers have a full character body (such as Bratz and Mario Kart) or a completely different form factor (such as the Wii Remote and Playstation Move).

6. When did Klik dispensers first appear in the marketplace?
2001.

7. What were the first Klik dispensers released?
The Nutcracker Klik dispensers were the first released.

8. Why were no new Klik dispensers released in 2012-2013 and 2015-2018?
A representative from Au'some answered in 2013: "We usually release them as we bring on a new license.  We have not had a new one in two years...  However we always look for new ones."

9.  Are there plans to release some new Klik dispensers?
A representative from Au'some answered: "At this time there are no plans, but keep checking as new releases happen when you least expect it !"

10. How do Klik dispensers dispense the candy?
Unlike PEZ dispensers, Klik dispensers do not have a head that tilts back.  Instead, the Klik dispenses candy via a plastic lever at the top of the stem.  As the lever is pulled back, a single candy rises into a slot.  When the lever is released, it pushes the candy forward out from the slot.  After the candy is dispensed, the lever hits the plastic housing giving a "click" sound, which must be where the Klik name came from.

11. How do you put candies into a Klik dispenser?
Similar to PEZ dispensers, you pull up the head which reveals an inner sleeve to insert the candies.  The sleeve and stem in Klik dispensers are rounded in the back, while PEZ dispenser sleeves and stems are rectangular in the back.

12. Are Klik dispensers as collectible as PEZ dispensers?
Not right now.  PEZ dispensers as we know them, with character heads, have been around since 1952.  So with a nearly 50 year head start, PEZ dispensers are much more collectible than Klik dispensers.  However, who knows, one day Klik dispensers may stop being made, as happened with former PEZ dispenser competitors like Totem and Yummy.  When that happens Klik dispensers will no doubt become more collectible.

If you have some Klik questions of your own, please let me know and I'll try to answer them and include them in the Klik FAQ.

It looks like the two you are missing are the "White Stem, High Kick Ball on Left" and "Red Stem, High Kick Ball on Left". The first photo on the page shows the "Red Stem, High Kick Ball on Left". I don't have a photo of "White Stem, High Kick Ball on Left", but I bet it exists!
